Job Summary:
The Armed Security Officer at Annunciation Catholic School (ACS) is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position safeguards the campus by preventing and responding to potential threats, monitoring school property, and enforcing school policies. The officer serves as both a visible security presence and a positive, approachable member of the ACS community.
Essential Functions
- Support the mission of Annunciation Catholic School, forming students in faith, knowledge, and service in the spirit of the Gospel.
- Cooperate with the Principal, Pastor, and School Administration in implementing all school policies, procedures, and directives.
- Provide a consistent, armed security presence on school grounds during school hours, Mass, and school events.
- Monitor entrances, exits, hallways, playgrounds, and other common areas to prevent unauthorized access or unsafe behavior.
- Respond immediately to emergencies, threats, or safety concerns (e.g., active threat, fire alarms, medical incidents).
- Conduct regular patrols of the campus to identify and address potential safety risks.
- Assist in safety drills (lockdown, fire, evacuation) and train staff and students on safety procedures.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency responders during crises.
- Enforce school and Archdiocesan rules in coordination with administration.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports on incidents and observations.
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families to foster trust and open communication.
- Handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and compassion appropriate to an elementary school environment.
- Represent Annunciation Catholic School and the values of the Catholic faith in a respectful, professional manner to the school community and the public.
Requirements
- Reflect and uphold the mission and Catholic values of Annunciation Catholic School in all actions.
- Prior law enforcement, military, or armed security experience required.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years as a commissioned law enforcement officer; retired law enforcement in good standing preferred.
- Current New Mexico Level 3 Security Guard license or equivalent certification preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with all firearms issued and carried. Must meet NM DPS firearms standards for commissioned officers and ACS armed security qualification standards.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
- Strong communication, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in emergencies.
- Sound judgment, confidentiality, and discretion.
- Physically able to respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Skilled in preparing clear and accurate written reports.
Working Conditions
- Hours aligned with school schedule, Masses, and events.
- Requires standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods.
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Experience:
- Prior law enforcement, military, or armed security: 10 years (Required)
