Position Summary - Hiring 1 Full-Time overnight position, may include weekends. Also looking for Per-Diem Staff - Weekends, Holidays, Evenings
The Residential Living Specialist is a vital member of Eagle Star Housing’s 24/7 shelter team, supporting Veterans and other individuals experiencing homelessness and/or mental illness in a safe, low-barrier, trauma-informed environment. This position focuses on daily living support, providing transportation, facility upkeep, and assisting with resident activities and meals. The Residential Living Specialist works alongside shelter leadership to ensure the program runs smoothly, residents feel supported, and the environment remains clean, respectful, and welcoming. This is not a nursing facility, and all residents must be independent to stay in shelter.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Errands
- Safely transport residents to approved appointments, community activities, and essential services.
- Complete daily operational errands such as picking up mail, grocery items, household supplies, or medications (as permitted).
- Maintain agency vehicles in a clean, safe, and well-documented condition (fueling, mileage logs, reporting maintenance needs).
Facility Support & Daily Chores
- Support daily shelter operations, including:
- Common area tidying and light cleaning
- Assisting with trash removal and supply restocking
- Supporting dinner setup, meal distribution, and cleanup
- Ensure shared spaces remain safe, organized, and welcoming.
- Ensure fire safety checks and facility inspections are complete.
Resident Engagement & Activities
- Assist in leading or accompanying residents to activities, outings, and community events.
- Provide casual, relationship-building support through conversation, encouragement, and positive role modeling.
- Help reinforce house expectations using a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and person-centered approach.
Program Support
- Communicate observations or resident concerns to the Residential Living Specialists or supervisor in a timely manner.
- Document shift notes, transportation logs, incident notes, or task checklists as required.
- Support emergencies or crises by following established protocols and maintaining calm, respectful interactions.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required.
- Experience working in human services, shelters, behavioral health, or similar settings preferred.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and practice trauma-informed, non-judgmental communication.
- Comfortable assisting with cleaning, errands, and meal service.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and navigate stairs as needed.
