The Foss Waterway Seaport is a heritage museum that features hands-on displays, a wooden boat shop, as well as a functional dock. Imagine a faithfully restored 126-year old building that has served the shores of Tacoma since it was built and now houses the greatest collection of marine history in the South Sound. Today the Seaport equal parts maritime museum, education facility, boat shop, dock, moorage, and iconic events venue.
SCOPE OF POSITION
We are seeking a proactive and detail oriented Facilities Coordinator to maintain our historic Seaport. The Facilities Coordinator oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of facility, dock, and grounds maintenance in areas such as janitorial, painting, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. Responsibilities include coordinating and overseeing the work performed by vendors and contractors, ensuring security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly, and maintaining accurate records. Your expertise will ensure that the facility is clean and maintained and ready to welcome museum and event guests. Hours are Monday through Friday between 8-5, with an occasional weekend shift.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● 3-5+ years’ proven experience in commercial building repairs and maintenance or related experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
● Basic understanding of janitorial, painting, carpentry, electrical and plumbing.
● Must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
● Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to work with minimal supervision.
● Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
● Maintain a professional attitude.
● Approach problem solving creatively.
● Possess a valid Driver’s License and insured transportation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Conduct regular routine cleaning, maintenance and minor repairs in and around the Seaport. This work includes, but is not limited to such tasks as sweep, mop, polish, dust, wash windows and glass doors, empty and clean trash containers.
● Take immediate action to remedy spills, breakage or littering of any type. Take action to protect visitors from hazards by eliminating the hazard altogether or preventing exposure by guarding or erecting temporary barricades of any available material. Will immediately report hazards, faults, damages, unsafe condition(s), unusual incidents and related matters to the Business Operations Manager.
● Maintain cleanliness of docks, provide exceptional customer service to boaters, monitor and report any safety hazards or maintenance issues, and collect moorage fees.
● Ensures that building spaces are prepared for meetings and/or events by emptying trash, arranging tables and chairs, vacuuming or mopping floors, and wipe down or dust surfaces.
● Sweep, pick up trash, and wash down sidewalks when outside temperatures allow. Perform minor patching, filling and repair of paved areas.
● As directed, service and clean mechanical, air conditioning, heating, lighting, and plumbing at a non-technical level, e.g. change HVAC filters, remove or replace light bulbs, replace minor parts and pieces, which do not require major disassembly.
● Perform handyman tasks which do not require technical skills and/or license.
● Accompany subcontractors and vendors while they are performing services in the museum and on the dock, overseeing the quality of services provided, and build and foster strong working relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
● Retrieve, assemble, maintain, disassemble, transport, store, move and otherwise handle or maintain non-fixed furniture, display devices, portable assemblies and similar items.
● Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
● Must be at least 21 years’ old.
● Ability to be at work on a regular and consistent basis.
● Ability to perform work that requires the following: frequent climbing, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, and hearing.
● Ability to lift and/or move an excess of 50 pounds or more and operate standard maintenance equipment as assigned.
● Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
● Ability to work around lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, and paints.
● Must be able and capable to perform the responsibilities of the role.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
