Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Take and evaluate vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to assess patient health status
- Assist the dentist during various procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth workflow
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories and documenting findings accurately in electronic medical record (EMR)
- Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote long-term dental health
- Capture and interpret dental radiographs (medical imaging) while maintaining strict infection control and aseptic techniques
- Review medical records and documentation for accuracy, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and proper medical coding standards
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice in a clinical setting
- Proven experience in general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, or dental clinic environments with proficiency in dental terminology and procedures
- Familiarity with EMR systems for documentation review and record keeping
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining excellent patient care and communication skills
- Experience working with pediatric patients is preferred; knowledge of pediatric dentistry is a plus
- Commitment to maintaining HIPAA compliance and safeguarding patient confidentiality at all times
