Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This role provides technical expertise in equipment setup, preventive maintenance, and repair of production machinery in a fast-paced contract packaging environment.
Due to the project-based nature of contract packaging, workload may vary depending on production schedules and deadlines. Employees may occasionally be assigned additional duties outside their regular responsibilities and are expected to perform these tasks as directed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report directly to the Maintenance Technician Supervisor.
- Perform equipment setup, changeovers, and breakdown for production lines.
- Develop, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance programs for production equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system issues on production equipment.
- Monitor and inspect equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Work with production teams to optimize machine performance and line efficiency.
- Track and document preventive maintenance activities and repair work.
- Coordinate with external service providers and vendors for specialized maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain spare parts inventory and communicate equipment repair needs to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Train and support maintenance staff and production associates on equipment operation and safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with GMP standards, safety policies, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Assist with building and facility maintenance schedules for items not covered under lease agreements.
- Support new facility setups, including equipment installation and training for maintenance and production teams.
- Inspect production equipment daily to ensure proper functionality and safety.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support production operations.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong knowledge of PLC systems and logic controls for high-speed production equipment.
- High School Diploma or GED required; maintenance or technical certification preferred.
- Ability to interpret bills of material, process flowcharts, production schedules, and operational procedures.
- Knowledge of risk management, quality control, and safety standards.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency with basic computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, order entry systems).
- Experience with Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and electrical maintenance.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, stretch, and lift equipment or parts as needed. The technician must remain mentally alert and aware of surroundings while working around production machinery and in a manufacturing environment.
