EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:Supervises persons performing court-ordered community service. The principal duties are performed in an office and outdoor environment that may include working in adverse weather conditions. The work is performed under the supervision of the Senior Probation Officer. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
CLASSIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for an individual to satisfactorily perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be successful in the position.
Knowledge of:
- Basic criminal court practices, terminology, and procedures applicable to performance of community service;
- Departmental programs, policies, procedures, and operations as applied to the work performed;
- Supervisory and security methods, procedures, and objectives applicable to the community service program;
- File and information management methods and procedures;
- Operation of standard office equipment, including a personal computer;
- County policies regarding safe work practices.
Skill and Ability to:
- Administer and supervise a community service program;
- Compile pertinent data and prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports;
- Provide direct on-site supervision to individuals and crews performing community service assignments;
- Operate hand tools;
- Operate a motor vehicle;
- Operate a personal computer including applications specific to court data and record systems;
- Operate standard office equipment;
- Maintain a professional demeanor during stressful, volatile, and hostile situations;
- Make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, codes, regulations, and established procedures;
- Speak clearly and communicate accurate instructions and information to others;
- Use English to communicate effectively with others;
- Listen carefully to, understand, and effectively communicate through oral, written, and interpersonal communication channels;
- Follow verbal and written instructions;
- Work independently and exercise initiative, with general guidance and supervision;
- Use good judgment to make sound and reasonable decisions and problem-solving skills to respond to customer service needs in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies;

- Demonstrate integrity and ingenuity in the performance of assigned tasks and solving problems;
- Maintain client and Department confidentiality required by Federal and local laws;
- Perform all duties in accordance with County policies and procedures with regard for personal safety and that of other employees and the public.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- High school diploma or GED;
- Valid Idaho State Drivers License;
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
- Must successfully pass background investigation relevant to the position and remain in good standing for the duration of employment with the County.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this classification. While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, bend, and handle tools used in performing the essential functions of the classification, use hands to keyboard or type, reach with hands and arms, and operate a vehicle pulling a trailer. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this classification include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus to comprehend written work instructions; comprehend physical activities of assigned clients; and to move around work sites. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions, and communicate effectively in person and by telephone. While performing the duties of this classification, the employee works in an office and outdoor environment where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
