McDaniel College is a four-year, independent college of the liberal arts and sciences offering over 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. This position has a budgeted hiring rate of $73,000. The position is classified as an AO. The AO salary band for all full-time, 12-month positions at the college with this classification have a minimum rate of $43,880 and a maximum rate of $93,750. The actual schedule for exempt positions may vary based on the workload and responsibilities assigned.

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the head coach directs and manages the Men's Basketball sports program at the college and, in general terms, is responsible for practice and game preparation, as well as recruiting, retention and program administration within that program. Head coaches are responsible for the proper utilization of facilities and equipment, scheduling of practices, athletic contests and designated special functions. Other duties will be assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of the program including planning and conducting practices and competitions; supervising, hiring, and evaluating assistant coaches; advising team members, captains, Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives, and managers; and ensuring leadership, sportsmanship, and professional conduct in alignment with institutional and sport governing body standards.
- Recruit, enroll, and retain a diverse and competitive roster of student-athletes; monitor and support their academic progress; develop and enforce team policies; maintain accurate roster updates; and represent the program to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage program operations including scheduling (in coordination with the Athletic Director), facility use, team travel logistics (housing, meals, itineraries), and completion of all pre- and post-season requirements, reports, and checklists.
- Oversee fiscal responsibilities including preparing and administering the sport budget, submitting equipment and uniform requests, maintaining annual inventory, and ensuring timely return of all issued gear.
- Ensure full compliance with NCAA, Centennial Conference, ECAC, and institutional regulations; attend all required meetings; and coordinate with athletic training staff regarding medical clearances, injury prevention, and athlete care.
- Collaborate across departments including Sports Information for promotion, statistics, and game management; athletics recruiting staff for reporting and strategy; SAAC for student-athlete engagement; and institutional advancement, alumni relations, and parent programs for fundraising and community connections.
- Support program visibility and engagement by working with alumni groups, participating in fundraising and development initiatives, organizing at least one annual community service event, and contributing to annual reports, performance analysis, and end-of-season evaluations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the athletics department and institutional goals.
- Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.
- Successful collegiate coaching experience.
- Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills required.
- Valid driver's license with two or less points.
