Job Summary
Looking for a patient, knowledgeable private math tutor to work one-on-one with our middle school child in our Sammamish home. Sessions follow the Issaquah School District 7th grade math curriculum, and we care as much about someone who can build our child's confidence as someone who can walk through a problem set. The right person can explain a concept three different ways without losing patience, and understands that helping a young learner believe they can do math matters just as much as getting to the right answer.
Responsibilities
- Work one-on-one with our 7th grader in our home, aligned to the Issaquah School District 7th grade math curriculum.
- Teach and reinforce core concepts, walk through problem sets, and review homework and class material.
- Explain ideas in more than one way, and adapt the approach when something isn't clicking.
- Build confidence and a positive relationship with math, not just complete worksheets.
- Keep us lightly in the loop on how things are going and where our child could use extra support.
Requirements
- Proven experience in tutoring or teaching math at the middle school level
- A genuine gift for working with young learners, and the patience to match.
- Someone who can meet our child where they are, adjust when an approach isn't working, and create a supportive, encouraging environment.
- A tutor who can help turn "I'm not a math person" into "let me try that again."
- Reliable, punctual, and easy for a young learner to trust.
