Being a Tutor or a Supplemental Instructor (SI) can be a very rewarding experience. Our Tutors work with students one-on-one and our SIs tend to work in group settings, both providing academic help and strategies for OCC (Oakland Community College) students to be successful.
Note: Applications for Tutors and Supplemental Instructors are received on a continuous basis and hiring needs tend to correlate with semester enrollment.
This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:

Engages students in activities and strategies that increase understanding of classroom or curricula topic and assignments

Teaches study skills and approaches to test-taking

Holds a solid academic knowledge in the subject areas they wish to tutor

Provides students positive and constructive feedback

May be asked to assist the student with tasks expected of the student in some specific classes including reading, scribing, and in-class assistance

Attends orientation and trainings
- Minimum 3.0 GPA in all courses you wish to tutor

Ability to communicate ideas to a diverse population of students

Interest in helping students

Capability to use technology and skills to tutor in an online environment
Pay is determined by level of education:

$15.00 per hour with fewer than 62 hours of college credit or without degree

$17.50 per hour with an Associate’s Degree
-
$21.15 per hour with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
