Job Description
ATC West Healthcare is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) with cardiothoracic surgery experience to provide inpatient, operative, and perioperative care for adult cardiothoracic surgery patients. This locum assignment is expected to last 6–9 months and requires a provider who can function across the full spectrum of care, including OR assistance, ICU management, hospital rounding, and clinic support. The position is available due to the retirement of a current APP and offers a collaborative environment with surgeons, APPs, and dedicated support staff.
Dates / Schedule
- Start Date: As soon as credentialed
- Assignment Length: 6–9 months
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, no call responsibilities
- Call Coverage: 1–2 weekday nights and weekend call coverage
- Night Call Hours: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- FTE: 1.0
- Credentialing Timeframe: Approximately 3+ months

Practice Setting
- Setting: 95% Hospital, 5% Clinic
- Patient Population: 100% Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery
- EMR: Epic
Clinical Responsibilities
- First assist in open cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
- Manage cardiothoracic surgery patients in the acute care and ICU settings.
- Perform inpatient rounding and provide clinic support when needed.
- Participate in perioperative and postoperative patient management.
- Evaluate and manage acute volume status and blood pressure issues.
- Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons and multidisciplinary care teams.
Required Procedures
- Open general cardiothoracic surgery
- On-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
- Valvular repair
- Valvular replacement
Preferred Experience
- Cardiac aneurysm repair
- Aorto-thoracic aneurysm repair
- Lung resection, including VATS procedures
- Chest wall and pleural procedures
- Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs)
- Ventilation management
- Acute volume and blood pressure management
- Central line insertion
Patient Volumes
- Hospital patients per day: 5–10
- Admissions: 0–3 per day
- ICU patients: 2–7 per day
- Surgeries: 1–2 per day
Support Staff
- 2 Cardiothoracic Surgeons
- 4 APPs/Midlevels
- RN Navigators
- Medical Assistants and ancillary office staff
Reason for Coverage
- Retirement of a current APP
Required Skills and Qualifications
Required
- Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Cardiothoracic surgery experience
- Operating room first-assist experience
- Experience managing cardiothoracic surgery patients in acute care and ICU settings
- Ability to round on patients and provide clinic support
- Self-Query NPDB report dated within 30 days of presentation
Highly Preferred
- Active Washington license at submission (providers obtaining licensure during credentialing will be considered)
- Clean malpractice and background history
- Local candidates requiring no air travel
