We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Architect to work with our growing team on a per-contract basis. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys taking residential projects from early design concepts through construction documentation, permitting, and builder coordination.
Position Overview
The Architect will contribute to the planning, design, documentation, and execution of custom residential projects. The successful candidate will work with clients, consultants, contractors, municipalities, and members of the MDRN Group team to deliver attractive, buildable, and code-compliant designs.
This position requires strong design judgment, technical knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to manage project requirements and deadlines independently.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop architectural concepts, schematic designs, floor plans, elevations, and presentation materials.
- Prepare accurate construction documents for custom homes, renovations, additions, and related residential projects.
- Translate client goals, lifestyle needs, budgets, and site conditions into thoughtful architectural solutions.
- Coordinate project requirements with structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, landscape, and interior-design consultants.
- Research and apply applicable building codes, zoning requirements, community guidelines, and municipal standards.
- Prepare and coordinate planning, HOA, design-review, and building-permit submittals.
- Respond to plan-review comments and work with municipalities to move projects efficiently through the approval process.
- Collaborate with builders and contractors to address constructability, material selections, details, and field conditions.
- Review drawings and project documents for accuracy, consistency, code compliance, and completeness.
- Participate in client meetings, design presentations, site visits, and construction-phase coordination.
- Maintain organized project files, schedules, drawing sets, and consultant information.
- Manage assigned contract work while meeting established deadlines and quality standards.
- Represent MDRN Group professionally when communicating with clients, builders, consultants, and public agencies.
Required Qualifications
- Professional degree in Architecture or equivalent relevant education and experience.
- Posses your own Architechual Stamp
- Minimum of three to five years of professional architectural experience.
- Experience producing residential construction documents.
- Strong understanding of architectural detailing, building systems, construction methods, and building codes.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or comparable architectural software.
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the MDRN Group team.
- Ability to travel locally for meetings, site visits, and project coordination.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Arizona architectural registration or active progress toward licensure.
- Experience with luxury custom homes, major residential renovations, or high-end additions.
- Familiarity with permitting and zoning requirements in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, and other Valley municipalities.
- Experience coordinating directly with residential builders, developers, engineers, and interior designers.
- Experience with 3D modeling, visualization, or rendering software.
- Knowledge of site planning, hillside development, HOA requirements, and design-review processes.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft 365.

Contract Structure and Compensation
This is an independent-contractor opportunity, with work assigned on a project-by-project basis. Compensation will be established on a per-contract basis according to the project’s size, scope, complexity, required deliverables, and agreed-upon schedule.
The selected architect will be responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, equipment, and other obligations associated with independent-contractor status, unless otherwise stated in a written project agreement.
