$19.84 Hourly + Earning Potential
This position is typically performed in 24-hour shifts or a combination of 12 and 24 hour shifts for an average of 56 hours per week on a rotating schedule. Based on this work schedule, your base wage and rate of $19.84, including overtime, has a potential earning of $66,027.52 annually.

Hiring Process
Ada County Paramedics conducts a hiring exam in the spring and fall of each year for EMT, AEMT, Paramedic and Reserve positions. The hiring process consists of a written exam, a physical ability test, practical scenarios and an interview.

POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides medical care including evaluation, treatment, and stabilization to the ill and injured.
This position is located in the Ada County Emergency Medical Services Department.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) has certification and/or licensure as an EMT and provides basic-level life support.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The incumbent is required to operate emergency medical vehicles, move medical equipment and extract injured persons from a wide variety of situations involving vehicular, industrial and residential accidents, injuries, or illness;

Work is performed inside and outside in areas that are subject to changing climatic conditions and in inclement weather;

At times the work requires movement over various types of terrain (hilly, steep, rocky, rough, and/or wet/slippery surfaces);

The incumbent must have sufficient personal mobility, fitness, stamina, and physical reflexes to be able to carry or help carry someone from the site of the illness or injury to the mode of transportation (vehicle/helicopter) and attend to the patient while in transport;

Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance);

The incumbent must see, hear, and communicate with the patient in order to perform a physical assessment;

May come into contact with hazardous materials, airborne pathogens, blood, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and goods or substances that may be deemed harmful, such as drugs or drug paraphernalia;

Must have ability to work various shifts and hours including nights, weekends, and holidays;
