Job Overview
Location: Lexington, SC (29072)
We're looking to add 1–3 compassionate Registered Nurses to our family team to help care for our almost 4-year-old daughter, Elee, alongside her new service dog, Biscuit! If you'd like to learn more about her journey, visit @pawsforeleeon Instagram.
This is in-home, family-centered nursing, and our nurses truly become an extension of our family. We're looking for nurses who value building a long-term relationship and providing consistent, loving care while helping Elee safely experience childhood adventures.
Previous nurses are happy to speak with prospective applicants if we feel it's a good mutual fit after an interview.
Schedule
We are looking for consistent coverage, but we also understand that flexibility is important. We are open to hiring multiple nurses so schedules can work well for everyone.
Current needs include ( can be broken up between multiple people):
- Mondays: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM until August 17th
- One or two additional weekdays during the summer (approximately 4-hour shifts) to do fun summer activities before school starts!
- Once school begins August 17th: 2 weekdays from 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- One overnight shift each week (typically 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Opportunity for additional overnight shifts after our new baby arrives in September
- Occasional evening/date-night coverage with advance notice
We are happy to work with the right candidates to build a schedule that provides both consistency for Elee and flexibility for you.
About Elee
Elee is a happy, curious little girl who loves being outside. She enjoys swimming, playgrounds, books, play dates, the zoo, and exploring the world around her.
She has epilepsy and developmental delays, so while safety is always the priority, we also want someone who will encourage her independence, language development, confidence, and joy.
We're Looking for Someone Who Is...
- A licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
- Dependable, patient, calm, and genuinely enjoys working with young children
- Looking for more than "just another nursing job" and excited to build a meaningful relationship with one family
- Energetic and enjoys outdoor activities, active play, and helping a child explore the world
- Comfortable encouraging play, books, conversation, and learning
- Willing to accompany Elee to therapies and reinforce developmental goals throughout the day
- Comfortable reading, playing educational games, or working on learning activities during medical device therapy sessions. She has to do an hour of a vibrating vest every day.
- Organized and willing to help keep Elee's bedroom, playroom, toys, and clothing tidy (overnight shifts include additional household responsibilities related to Elee).
- A dog lover. We have family dogs in addition to Elee's service dog, Biscuit, who accompanies her nearly everywhere. We will provide training so you feel confident handling him.
Medical Responsibilities
Training will be provided by Mom, and you'll become familiar with Elee's individualized care plan. For overnight schedules, mom will always be there, just sleeping in another room. Elee sleeps with monitors and on a ventilator ( she is too small for a CPAP and has sleep apnea).
Responsibilities include:
- Administering scheduled medications
- Administering emergency seizure rescue medication according to her seizure action plan
- Monitoring and responding appropriately to seizures
- Comfortably working with her VNS device magnet in emergencies
- Remaining calm and confident during emergencies
- Managing Elee's service dog as the "handler" when together. You will receive extensive training.
Safety
Safety is our highest priority.
Elee is an elopement risk and requires close supervision at all times, especially in public and around water. She is quick, adventurous, and fearless, so we're looking for someone who is attentive, proactive, and physically able to respond immediately when needed. Elee's seizures are currently controlled but that can change in an instant. She easily goes into status epilepticus and needs immediate care and treatment in addition to emergency services.
She also follows a strict medical diet, so monitoring meals and snacks carefully is essential.
A reliable vehicle is required, and a car seat will be provided.
Requirements
- Active South Carolina RN license
- Current CPR certification (PALS preferred but not required)
- Reliable, clean, transportation with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass background and drug screening
- Ability to comfortably lift and actively supervise a young child during community outings and swimming activities. Elee is 40 lbs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive pay based on experience
- Flexible scheduling
- Supportive, appreciative family environment
- Opportunity for long-term employment with a wonderful little girl who will absolutely steal your heart
If you're an RN who feels called to private duty pediatric nursing and wants to make a lasting difference in one child's life while becoming part of a supportive family, we'd love to hear from you.
Pay: $38.00 - $41.00 per hour
Application Question(s):
- You will be hired and your schedule will be exclusively managed between you and I but will be employed through a third party that will handle your prescreening and payment through our insurance. Elee will be your only client/patient. We are allowed up to 40 hours per week of nursing services per week. If you are ok with that model, please continue with your application!
