Job Summary:
The Physical Therapy Technician will be responsible for assisting physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in performing therapeutic exercises, treatments, and procedures to improve the physical functioning of patients. The PT Technician will also provide patient education, document patient information, and support the physical therapist in providing patient care.

Essential Job Duties:
· Assists with procedures such as functional activities, gait training, transfer training and therapeutic exercises. Assists with notation of objective measures.
· Monitors routine vital signs as directed.
· Fits and adjusts equipment as needed. Fits and applies braces as instructed.
· Supervises routine exercises or activities of therapist-designated patients, which are documented but not billed under Physical Therapy Services.
· Applies heat/cold and unattended modalities as directed by the therapist.
· Provides setup and take down of relevant equipment used during treatment sessions.
· Coordinates DOC staff with Physical Therapy treatment schedules to facilitate functional mobility training.
· Keeps therapy equipment clean and ready for use, promptly reporting any malfunction or potential malfunction of equipment.
· Keeps gym and treatment rooms clean and cleared of obstruction by cleaning surfaces and supplies with appropriate infection control measures and returning all equipment and supplies immediately following treatments.
· Prepares specialized equipment for use, following infection control guidelines.
· Performs tasks necessary for the daily operation of the department such as disinfecting equipment, collecting walkers, and restocking supplies.
· Cares for and maintains equipment.
· Gathers necessary equipment and supplies prior to beginning treatment.
· Transports patients to/from treatment areas within the clinic and hospital setting.
· Explain the procedures in a manner appropriate to the age and abilities of the patient.
· Ensures patient comfort and safety during treatment.
· Notifies appropriate staff of concerns regarding patient care or treatment.
· Assists therapists with interdepartmental scheduling and communication.
· Reports pertinent information received from patient or nursing to the therapist.
· Communicates patients’ status to Therapist of Record, referring physician, and other health care team members.
· Maintains patient confidentiality and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
· Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
· Keeps track of inventory and assists with, or orders supplies as needed.
· Checks deliveries for accuracy, compares with invoices, and files completed orders per department protocol.
· Stores supplies in appropriate location.
· Appropriately manages use of hospital supplies and resources.
· Provides patient care with altruism, compassion, duty, and integrity.
· Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential.
· Maintains an appropriate appearance following hospital dress code policy.
· Models professional and ethical behavior.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and management.
· Updates job knowledge by participation in educational opportunities.
· Serves the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies, and procedures, federal, state and local requirements.
· Attend meetings as requested.
· Demonstrates appropriateness in attendance and comply with guidelines concerning unscheduled absences and reporting to work.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Periodic Essential Job Duties:
1. Performs efficiently in emergency situations (i.e., CPR, fire, disaster).
2. Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and in-service programs.
3. Assist with staff in-services and new hire orientation for mechanical lift equipment.
4. Performs any special assignments as delegated such as:
a. Provides shift report.
b. Participate in departmental quality assurance/performance improvement projects.
c. Participates in staff education and training.
Job Specification:
Qualifications:
1. Education/Training: High School Graduate or GED.
2. Maintains current BLS certification.
3. Skills: Maintains a high degree of credibility, independence, integrity confidentiality, and trust. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.
4. Physical Effort: Must be able to stand and traverse 50% of the time. Frequent sitting and typing. Work requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds and to traverse inside the hospital.
