Accounting Generalist
Des Moines, IA – Full Time | On-site at Capital Sanitary
About the Role
Capital Sanitary is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Generalist to join our Des Moines team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring timely, professional interactions with our customers. Key Responsibilities
- Post daily customer payments by recording cash, check, and credit card transactions into the accounting system
- Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to ensure all payments are properly recorded and discrepancies are promptly resolved
- Manage collections by sending invoice reminders and communicating with customers via phone, email, or mail
- Provide backup support to customer service by answering phones and assisting with order entry as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Communicate with customers regarding billing discrepancies and questions
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
- Collaborate with sales department to resolve billing issues
- Perform credit checks on customers to extend credit terms
- Investigate and resolve issues related to short payments, deductions, and unpaid invoices.
- Accurately review, code, and process vendor invoices
- Process check requests and expense reports on a regular basis
- Perform monthly reconciliations
- Maintain many vendor accounts while staying in compliance with company policies and procedures
- Perform data entry associated with accounts payable
- Review and reconcile invoice discrepancies
- Address and respond to vendor inquiries
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in accounting or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of accounts receivable or general accounting experience preferred
- Strong ability to calculate, post, and manage financial data accurately
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
- Excellent communication skills — verbal, written, and listening
- Strong organizational and time management abilities with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
