Commercial Service Technician (HVAC)
Job Type: Full-Time (direct hire with client)
Schedule: Monday–Friday with on-call schedule (2x per year for 1 week); overtime, evenings, weekends, and occasional Saturdays as needed.
Backup (2x per year for 1 week) & with on-call schedule (2x per year for 1 week)
Pay: $26-30hr, with ample opportunities to earn bonuses and overtime
($800-$1000 in bonuses typically a month)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Service Technician to join our growing HVAC team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems while delivering exceptional customer service.
This position requires strong technical skills, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while maintaining positive relationships with customers, facility managers, property managers, and contractors.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment
- Service rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, package units, heat pumps, exhaust systems, ventilation equipment, and related controls
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, airflow, and control system issues
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, technical manuals, and equipment specifications
- Perform low-voltage wiring, brazing, soldering, refrigeration piping, and electrical troubleshooting
- Test system performance, airflow, refrigerant charge, and electrical components
- Communicate repair recommendations and equipment conditions to customers in a professional manner
- Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and work orders accurately and on time
- Maintain truck inventory and request materials as needed
- Follow OSHA, EPA, company safety procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements
- Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to emergency service calls
- Assist with training and mentoring junior technicians
- Maintain a clean, organized vehicle and work area
- Represent the company professionally at all customer locations
Qualifications Required
- EPA Certification
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work independently and manage service calls efficiently
- Ability to use smartphones, tablets, and service software
Preferred
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience
- Experience servicing RTUs, split systems, package units, VAV systems, and commercial controls
- NATE Certification or other industry certifications
- Strong customer service and communication skills
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted
- Climb ladders, stairs, and access rooftops safely
- Work at heights using proper fall protection
- Bend, kneel, crawl, squat, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the day
- Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawl spaces, and confined areas
- Work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity
