Duties
- Safely operate a tractor-trailer on local routes, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or specialized equipment for automobile transportation.
- Load and unload freight efficiently using manual handling techniques while complying with logistics cargo handling procedures.
- Navigate routes confidently using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries within designated areas.
- Maintain compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, and hazardous materials regulations when applicable.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit, especially when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous materials.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections before and after trips to ensure safety standards are met; report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Document delivery activities accurately, including delivery receipts, logs, and compliance paperwork for freight such as refrigerated goods or hazardous materials.
Requirements
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving.
- Familiarity with manual transmission trucks and tractor-trailer operations.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for dangerous goods.
- Ability to handle manual handling tasks related to truck loading/unloading and cargo securing.
- Experience with refrigerated trailers or specialized freight is a plus but not required.
- Strong navigation skills using GPS systems; excellent driving skills with an emphasis on safety and compliance.
- Physical ability to load/unload freight manually and perform routine vehicle inspections.
