Position Overview:
Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Inc. (MESI) seeks an experienced and dedicated Grants and Finance Officer to join our senior management team. This key leadership position oversees all financial activities, grant management, and reporting for a local non-profit social service organization. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional financial acumen, grant management expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare and present to Board of Directors and Executive Director financial statements and budget reports monthly, annually, and as requested for special projects.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, as well as accounting standards.
- Lead annual external financial and grant-specific audits.
- Manage all aspects of the agency annual budget including forecasting, budget-to-actual analysis, and financial reporting.
- Reconcile and manage all financial accounts, including payroll and monthly expenditures.
- Process and track monthly grant reimbursement requests.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Actively participate in senior management decisions regarding operations, programming, policies, and personnel.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support organizational goals.
- Prepare agendas, staff reports, minutes, and other documents as necessary for Board of Directors meetings.
Grant and Program Management:
- Manage all aspects of grant process from pre-application research to program design to implementation and post award reporting.
- Prepare, submit, and manage grant applications and reports, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
- Monitor grant and program expenditures, tracking progress and performance metrics.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of federal grant funding regulations and programming.
Fundraising and Donor Relations:
- Develop and manage fundraising strategies, including soliciting and maintaining donor and sponsor relationships.
- Organize and administer MESI’s annual fundraising event.
- Process donation tax receipts and oversee all financial aspects of fundraising activities.
Policy Development and Compliance:
- Develop and implement agency and program policies and procedures to ensure operational excellence.
- Maintain and administer accounting policies and internal control procedures to safeguard assets, ensure competitive procurement processes, and meet regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Strong background in financial reporting and analysis, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks.
- Proven experience in grant writing, budget development, and program management.
- In-depth knowledge of federal grant funding regulations and programming requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and in challenging situations.
