Low Voltage Electrician – Access Control & Door Security Systems Specialist

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Electrician specializing in access control systems, card readers, magnetic locks, electric strikes, and commercial door security hardware. The ideal candidate will install, troubleshoot, service, and commission low-voltage security systems in commercial, institutional, healthcare, municipal, and educational facilities.
This role requires strong knowledge of door hardware integration, access control wiring, power supplies, life safety systems, and the ability to work independently on active construction sites and service calls.
Primary Responsibilities
- Install and terminate low-voltage wiring (12V, 24V, and network cabling) for security and access control systems.
- Install and configure card readers, keypad entry systems, biometric readers, and credential devices.
- Install and wire electromagnetic locks (mag locks), electric strikes, delayed egress devices, and request-to-exit devices.
- Install and integrate door position switches, motion sensors, push-to-exit buttons, and emergency release devices.
- Mount and connect access control panels from manufacturers such as HID Global, Honeywell, ASSA ABLOY, and Allegion.
- Pull, route, label, and test low-voltage cable including CAT6, 18/2, 18/4, shielded cable, and composite cable.
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, door schedules, and hardware specifications.
- Coordinate installation with general contractors, electricians, IT personnel, and security integrators.
- Program and test access control software and verify proper communication with controllers and network systems.
- Diagnose and repair system failures, wiring faults, lock malfunctions, and communication issues.
- Ensure installations meet NFPA, building code, fire code, and ADA compliance requirements.
- Install power supplies, backup batteries, relays, and door operators when required.
- Perform final testing, commissioning, and customer training.
- Maintain accurate service records, punch lists, and installation documentation.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in low-voltage electrical installation or security/access control systems.
- Experience installing magnetic locks, electric strikes, card readers, request-to-exit sensors, and access control panels.
- Strong understanding of door hardware and commercial door operation.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Experience troubleshooting DC power supplies and relay-based circuits.
- Familiarity with access control systems and credential management platforms.
- Knowledge of fire alarm interface requirements for egress and life safety systems.
- Ability to use multimeters, cable testers, drills, hand tools, and termination tools.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work on ladders/lifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Low voltage licensing (where required by state).
- Experience with commercial hollow metal doors, electrified hardware, and automatic door operators.
- Certifications from Genetec, LenelS2, Avigilon, or Brivo.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience working on schools, hospitals, government buildings, or commercial construction projects.

Pay Range: $28 – $45 per hour depending on experience and licensing.
