Responsibilities
Structural Repairs
- Perform complete structural repairs on unibody and full-frame vehicles.
- Diagnose collision damage and determine proper repair methods.
- Measure and restore vehicle dimensions using computerized measuring systems.
- Operate frame machines to return vehicles to factory specifications.
- Replace frame rails, aprons, core supports, rocker panels, roof panels, quarter panels, and other structural components.
- Perform sectioning procedures following OEM repair guidelines.
Welding & Metal Work
- Perform MIG, squeeze-type resistance spot welding (STRSW), aluminum welding, and brazing as required.
- Replace welded-on panels using OEM-approved methods.
- Repair or fabricate damaged metal panels when appropriate.
- Ensure weld integrity meets manufacturer safety standards.
Vehicle Disassembly & Reassembly
- Completely disassemble damaged vehicles for repair.
- Properly document hidden damage.
- Reassemble vehicles after repairs while ensuring proper panel alignment and fitment.
- Verify proper operation of all vehicle systems before delivery.
OEM Repair Procedures
- Read and follow manufacturer repair procedures.
- Understand advanced high-strength steel (AHSS), ultra-high-strength steel (UHSS), aluminum, and mixed-material construction.
- Ensure all repairs comply with OEM specifications and industry safety standards.
Equipment Operation
- Operate frame racks and computerized measuring systems.
- Use hydraulic pulling equipment safely.
- Operate welders, plasma cutters, rivet guns, aluminum repair equipment, and specialty collision tools.
- Maintain shop equipment in safe working condition.
Quality Control
- Perform self-quality inspections throughout the repair process.
- Ensure vehicles meet safety, structural, and cosmetic standards.
- Identify and correct repair issues before vehicles move to the next production stage.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas.
Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with estimators, production managers, painters, and mechanical technicians.
- Assist in identifying additional damage requiring supplements.
- Mentor apprentice or junior technicians when needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of structural collision repair experience.
- Strong knowledge of OEM repair procedures.
- Experience using frame measuring systems.
- Experience operating frame straightening equipment.
- Welding certifications preferred.
- I-CAR Platinum certification preferred.
- ASE Collision Repair certifications are a plus.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in a fast-paced shop environment.
