12V Installer – Automotive Electrical Technician (Emergency Vehicle Upfitting)
Pay: $28.00 – $38.00 per hour
About the Role
Code 1 Solutions is a premium emergency-vehicle upfitting shop. We build and service municipal fleets, law enforcement, EMS, and fire command vehicles. Unlike dealership or car-audio work, most of what we build runs on our own harnesses and control systems — separate from factory wiring. You'll typically connect to just three factory circuits (ignition, horn, and occasionally lights); everything else is our wire.
That means clean, deliberate work on mission-critical vehicles. You don't need lights-and-siren experience — that's exactly what we train. What we can't train is solid automotive electrical instinct. If you can find an ignition source, wire relays and diodes correctly, read a wiring diagram, and know how to chase down an electrical short with a scan tool and a multimeter, you've got the foundation to succeed here.
What You'll Do
Your day-to-day is building emergency vehicles from the ground up:
- Install emergency lighting, sirens, and communication systems (we train you on all of it)
- Run custom wiring and build custom circuitry — clean, labeled, and reliable
- Work with siren CAN lines and integrated control systems
- Tear vehicles down and reassemble them (dash, panels, bumpers, trim)
- Mount equipment, brackets, and consoles properly and securely
- Handle light fabrication to make parts fit and mount right
- Perform occasional electrical diagnostics — chasing shorts, checking circuits, verifying installs
- Deliver finished vehicles that pass agency inspection standards, on deadline
What We're Looking For
- 3–5 years of hands-on automotive electrical experience (fleet, remote start/alarm, diagnostic, or dealership electrical work all count)
- Proven ability to diagnose electrical shorts and troubleshoot circuits from a wiring diagram
- Strong proficiency with a scan tool / diagnostic scanner
- Comfortable with relays, diodes, and 12V wiring fundamentals (CAN training provided)
- Mechanical aptitude for trim removal, bracket mounting, and light fabrication
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently
- No lights/sirens or emergency-vehicle experience required — we train the specialized systems
Compensation & Benefits
- $28–$38/hr, based on experience
- Health coverage stipen
- Paid time off
- All specialty tools and equipment provided
- Steady, year-round municipal fleet work
- Growth path into lead tech / shop foreman roles
Who Thrives Here
- Techs from car-audio, remote-start/alarm, fleet, or dealership electrical backgrounds ready to level up
- People who take pride in clean wiring and reliability
- Anyone who wants meaningful work on vehicles that protect their community
