About The Dog Academy
We are not your average dog facility, and this is not your average dog job.
The Dog Academy is Houston's most culture-driven pet care campus -- 2 acres, 32 private boarding rooms, a bone-shaped pool, multiple fields, and a team that genuinely believes that how we treat each other directly determines how well we care for the dogs. That belief has made us the best-reviewed pet care facility in the city.
We are currently rebuilding and relaunching as "The Dog Academy 2.0", and we are looking for five people to grow with us from the ground up. If you want to be part of something being built, not just something already built, this is that moment.
The Role
This is a full-time, hands-on caretaking role that splits equally between dog daycare and overnight boarding. You will be working directly with dogs for the majority of your shift -- supervising group play, managing individual boarding dogs, facilitating enrichment activities, and building real relationships with the animals in your care.
This is not a desk job. You will be on your feet for up to 8 hours, working outdoors in Houston weather, managing groups of up to 15 dogs at a time. It is physically demanding, emotionally rewarding, and never the same day twice.
What You Will Do
- Supervise daycare play groups, monitoring dog behavior and managing group dynamics
- Care for boarding dogs throughout their stay -- feeding, walking, enrichment activities, and one-on-one time
- Recognize and respond to signs of stress, illness, or conflict in dogs
- Communicate with clients about their dogs' experience and wellbeing
- Keep facilities clean, safe, and organized throughout your shift
- Support your teammates and operate as one unit -- we do not work in silos here
Who We Are Looking For
You do not need years of experience. You need the right foundation:
- A genuine passion for dogs that goes beyond thinking they are cute
- The ability to stay calm, focused, and observant in a high-energy environment
- Physical stamina -- this role will wear you out in the best way
- Reliability -- the dogs and your teammates depend on you showing up
- A growth mindset -- we invest in our people and expect them to invest in themselves
- Strong communication skills, both with your team and with clients
Experience in dog care, boarding, or daycare is a plus. Knowledge of dog body language and behavior is a significant plus.
