Queen City Farms is seeking a detail-oriented Farm Technician to join our growing team. This role centers on packing and processing orders in our packhouse while supporting daily operations in our vertical farm. You will help ensure the consistent production and preparation of high-quality microgreens, leafy greens, and edible flowers. We need someone with a strong work ethic who can work both independently and as part of a team, and who is committed to the highest standards of food safety and product quality.
Responsibilities
Packing & Order Processing
- Accurately pack harvested products according to customer orders and specifications.
- Process, label, and prepare orders for shipment or pickup in a timely, organized manner.
- Maintain inventory of packing materials and ensure proper rotation of finished goods.
- Inspect product quality during packing and remove any items that do not meet standards.
- Keep detailed records of packed orders, yields, and any discrepancies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient packhouse workspace at all times.
Production & Harvesting
- Harvest weekly crops following established procedures.
- Operate and maintain basic harvesting tools and soil-mixing equipment.
- Clean, sanitize, and properly dispose of harvested trays.
- Record accurate data on harvested crops and production volumes.
Environmental Control
- Water crops according to prescribed schedules and protocols.
- Monitor and adjust indoor climate controls (temperature, humidity, etc.) to maintain optimal growing conditions.
Physical Tasks
- Regularly lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Work comfortably in a warm, humid environment.
- Use small step ladders as needed.
Sanitation & Food Safety
- Strictly follow all sanitation and food-safety guidelines.
- Keep the packhouse, growing areas, and equipment clean and organized (including mopping, sanitizing, and cleaning water systems).
- Adhere to all company policies on hygiene and contamination prevention.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work effectively both independently and with the team.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and colleagues.
- Follow directions promptly and accurately.
Detail Orientation
- Maintain precise records.
- Consistently follow detailed harvesting, packing, and growing procedures.
Qualifications
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a warm, humid environment.
- Strong attention to detail, especially in packing and order accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and procedures.
- Prior experience in farming, food production, packing, or warehouse/order fulfillment is a plus.
Work Schedule
- Minimum 40 hours per week, 5 days per week.
- Rotating weekend coverage as needed.
- Flexible hours and holiday coverage may be required.
- Overtime available as needed.
Probationary Period
- 90-day probationary period.
