Job Summary:
The Assistant Hardware Manager position is a developmental leadership role designed to prepare an employee for future leadership within the Hardware Department. The position begins at the Front Counter, where the employee will build a strong foundation in customer service, point-of-sale operations, sales processes, product knowledge, and daily store operations. As proficiency is demonstrated, responsibilities will progressively expand into the Hardware Department, including merchandising, inventory management, purchasing, vendor relations, and team leadership. Customer Service
- Greet customers promptly and professionally
- Answer incoming phone calls and direct inquiries appropriately
- Assist customers with product information, pricing, availability, and special orders
- Resolve customer concerns in a courteous and professional manner
- Build strong relationships with contractors, builders, and retail customers
Sales Support
- Process customer sales orders and quotations accurately
- Assist customers in selecting building materials and related products
- Coordinate with outside sales representatives and yard personnel to ensure smooth order fulfillment
- Recommend complementary products and services when appropriate
- Follow up on customer inquiries and pending quotes
Administrative Duties
- Enter orders, customer information, and payment transactions into company software system
- Process invoices, returns, credits, and special-order paperwork
- Maintain organized customer records and documentation
- Work with Shipping to schedule deliveries and customer pickups
- Close out Cash Drawer Nightly
- Assist during busy periods and support other departments when needed
Hardware and Inventory
- Maintain well-stocked shelves and attractive merchandise displays
- Conduct regular inventory counts and cycle counts
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies
- Monitor slow-moving inventory and recommend markdowns or promotions
- Support seasonal merchandising and promotional displays
- Assist with receiving, stocking, and product placement
- Maintain accurate pricing and signage throughout the department
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: Strong knowledge of hardware products. Prior experience in a lumberyard, building supply, construction, or warehouse environment is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory systems. Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:15 PM. Overtime may be required during peak seasons and is compensated accordingly.
Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
