You’ll play a key role in creating a beautiful, thriving outdoor space of 10,000 square feet. With 40 raised garden beds growing food. This energetic position combines outdoor work and horticultural expertise. You’ll be responsible for maintaining garden beds and surrounding plants, ensuring the overall appearance of our youth garden space, and keeping the garden maintained, inviting, and well-organized. Responsibilities
- Provide garden tours when needed when guests visit our youth garden.
- Maintain and enhance garden beds by planting, watering, pruning, and mulching to ensure vibrant and healthy appearances.
- Assist with fertilizing and weed control to support landscape maintenance projects.
- Manage inventory by stocking shelves, organizing merchandise, and conducting stock counts to ensure product availability.
- Communicate effectively with in-person visitors to answer questions about types of plants and how to care for them.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the garden area to create an inviting environment.
- Responsible for picking up weekly coffee grounds from nearby Starbucks. As a team, assist with picking up donated bags of soil from the Kellogg warehouse (3x yearly)
- Collaborate with team members/college interns on outdoor work projects such as planting beds or landscape installations while adhering to safety standards.

- Previous outdoor work experience in gardening, landscaping, or lawn care is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of horticulture principles including plant identification, soil preparation, pest management, and seasonal planting techniques.
- Strong communication skills in English; Bilingual in Spanish; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse customer bases.
- Ability to operate outdoor equipment safely, including lawn mowers, trimmers, or other landscaping tools.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining displays and inventory accuracy.
- Able to give directions when needed and receive directions as a learning tool.
- Composting experience and knowledge are a must-have.
