Travelling MEP Superintendent – Data Center Projects
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Traveling MEP Superintendent to lead Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), Fire Protection, and Building Controls field operations on mission-critical data center projects for our client across the United States. This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day MEP construction activities, coordinating trade contractors, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety and quality standards, and supporting commissioning through project turnover.
The Traveling MEP Superintendent serves as the primary field leader for all MEP systems and works closely with project management, owners, design consultants, commissioning agents, and trade partners to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents and owner expectations. This position requires extensive travel and temporary relocation based on project assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Leadership:
- Direct and coordinate all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Building Automation System (BAS) activities on assigned projects.
- Lead daily MEP coordination meetings with trade contractors, project management, and field supervision.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors to maintain safe, productive, and efficient work operations.
- Develop short-term and long-term installation plans that support the overall construction schedule.
- Monitor manpower, production rates, and work sequencing to achieve project milestones.
MEP Coordination:
- Coordinate installation of critical building systems including:
- Medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution
- Switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, and ATS equipment
- Chilled water systems
- CRAH and CRAC units
- Air handling equipment
- Cooling towers
- Pumps and piping systems
- Plumbing and fire protection systems
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Controls, monitoring, and life safety systems
- Review construction drawings, BIM coordination models, specifications, and shop drawings to identify and resolve conflicts before installation.
- Coordinate work between MEP trades, structural, architectural, and civil teams to minimize disruptions and maintain project flow.
Schedule Management:
- Work closely with project management to develop and maintain detailed MEP schedules.
- Identify schedule risks and implement recovery plans when necessary.
- Coordinate equipment deliveries, inspections, utility connections, and startup activities.
- Track installation progress and provide regular updates to project leadership.
- Ensure milestone activities supporting commissioning and owner occupancy are achieved.
Safety Leadership:
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability across all MEP operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, project-specific safety plans, and company safety policies.
- Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), site inspections, and safety audits.
- Address unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective action planning when required.
Quality Assurance:
- Inspect installed work to ensure compliance with contract documents, manufacturer recommendations, project specifications, and applicable codes.
- Coordinate quality inspections with project management and trade partners.
- Monitor installation tolerances, equipment protection, and workmanship throughout construction.
- Manage punch list completion and corrective action tracking.
- Ensure all deficiencies are resolved before turnover.
Commissioning & Turnover:
- Coordinate pre-functional inspections, startup activities, and commissioning schedules.
- Work with commissioning agents, equipment vendors, and subcontractors during testing and integrated systems verification.
- Verify completion of owner training, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and as-built documentation.
- Support project turnover and owner acceptance activities.
Communication & Reporting:
- Maintain daily reports documenting manpower, production, safety observations, equipment deliveries, inspections, and project progress.
- Participate in owner meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and schedule reviews.
- Communicate field issues promptly and collaborate with project management to develop solutions.
- Maintain professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and trade contractors.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of experience managing field operations on commercial, industrial, healthcare, manufacturing, or mission-critical construction projects.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supervising MEP systems on large-scale construction projects.
- Experience leading MEP field operations for data centers or other mission-critical facilities is strongly preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and building automation systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, BIM models, specifications, and project schedules.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, commissioning, and integrated systems testing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and related construction management software.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively and relocate temporarily based on project assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting hyperscale or enterprise data center construction.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Experience with BIM coordination and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC).
- Familiarity with Lean Construction principles and Last Planner System.
- Experience coordinating integrated systems testing (IST) and mission-critical commissioning.

- Ability to travel extensively and work on temporary assignments throughout the United States.

- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
