American Traveler is hiring an experienced travel RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel), Epic proficiency, and current TNCC certification.

39-bed mixed ICU divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
-
Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
-
Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population
-
Cardiac experience preferred; CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs) experience is a plus but not required
-
Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare)

12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)

No on-call requirements

Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele, at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Charting via Epic (required), Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), and Omnicell
-
Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license accepted

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with 1.5 years of non-travel ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered

Epic EMR experience required

Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
-
Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry monitoring
-
Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
-
Minimum one prior travel nursing assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered

Must reside more than 100 miles from any facility in the health system to be eligible

Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler

Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration

DOB and SSN required for consideration

Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a staffing-dependent resource nurse, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and intensivist and APP physician coverage around the clock

Travelers will not be assigned fresh open-heart cases unless they have demonstrated experience and facility approval; travelers will not float to the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty

Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation session, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts

May be expected to precept nursing students

RTO is not permitted during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved with contract extension
