Job Summary:
The Assistant Mechanic will be responsible for all equipment maintenance and repair and maintaining a safe, clean and organized work environment. The Assistant Mechanic will be motivated, enthusiastic and united with the maintenance team to produce championship golf course conditions. This individual may be asked to work weekends, holidays or stay late for critical repairs to be completed. Detailed record keeping is a must for this position. The Agronomy Team here at The Founders Golf Club wants to help this individual thrive in the maintenance industry so that they can advance his or her career.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
On occasion, may serve as a supervisor.
Physical Requirements:
Required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to function in an outdoor environment with high heat indexes consistent with a Florida climate. Will be subject to loud noises, fumes and smells associated with heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Must be able to operate large outdoor motorized vehicles legally and safely.
Required Skills and Education:
- Ability to communicate on a professional level with staff, vendors, suppliers, members, and guests.
- Knowledge of turf equipment to include basic understanding of equipment service and record keeping
- Ability to read and follow manuals, understand preventive maintenance requirements and schedules and repair equipment.
- Know and have the ability to utilize various trade tools and the safety guidelines of their use.
- Basic knowledge of computers
- Able to work through stressful situations for time sensitive repairs
- Personal tools are required
Primary Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Preventative maintenance on gas and diesel engines to include: oil, filter, grease points, hydraulic hose inspection and replacement, electrical systems, height of cut inspection, sharpening of reels, bedknives and rotary blades
- Conduct diagnostic tests and inspection to identify equipment malfunctions with mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues on all equipment using diagnostic tools, software and repair manuals
- Maintain clean and organized space in the shop to include office, work benches and equipment
- Maintain up to date records on maintenance practices
- Familiarizing new employees with equipment as they are trained to operate
- Able to learn basic fabrication principles and welding
