Summary:
The LEADS Driver Position transports older adults and individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities to and from their homes to programming at the J and various community settings. Provides physical support to assist participants with safely navigating on and off the bus/van and to and from their home. Other duties occasionally include supporting meal delivery programs for home-bound seniors.
Hours: Monday thru Friday 7:30am-9:30am & 2:30pm-4:30pm
Occasionally Per Required Need: Monday thru Friday 10am-2pm community outings trips as scheduled. Additional hours available on Sundays and evenings per required need.
Responsibilities:

Assist all adults door-to-door between their home and the bus/van, as well as between the J and the bus/van. This includes assisting participants on and off the bus/van, operating the vehicle’s wheelchair lift, pushing a wheelchair, lifting, and securing adaptive equipment for transport once passenger is seated, etc.

Provide transportation services to adults of LEADS programs to and from Community Outings, per required need.

Make sure all adults are properly seated and belted at all times while in the vehicles.

The bus/van is to be checked when dropping off at the Day Services in the morning by walking down
- Report any service needs of the bus/van to Buildings and Grounds contact.

Attend required training sessions and meetings.

Maintain CDL license.

Provide feedback regarding efficiency of routes, suggestions for improvement and other issues that pertain to the programs and/or the participants.

Take delivery van/truck to Kitchen J, load meals for homebound delivery (lifting up to 50lbs), and then deliver the meals following a pre-determined route.

Assist Kitchen J, as required, with stocking of food (putting away deliveries, helping to track inventory and expiration dates).

Responsible for a clean bus/van and delivery van, they are to be swept out daily.

All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:

Must have CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) A, B, or C with passenger endorsement.

High School Diploma or GED required.

Must be able to read and follow instructions.

Good customer service skills and demonstrate a positive demeanor.

Ability to have patience when assisting frail older adults.

Ability to physically assist frail elderly adults, up to 250 pounds, in and out of the bus/van for transfer and with mobility. Includes assisting those with canes, walkers, and in manual and electric wheelchairs.
- Able to walk, bend, push, lift, sweep the bus/van, see, hear and have the physical capacity to drive the bus/van.

Must have physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, transfer participants (up to 250 pounds), push and maneuver a wheelchair up to 250 pounds, and assist participants with mobility.

Ability to interact personally with participants and their families.

Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification is required (training is provided)

Position requires registration on the MO Family Care Safety Registry as well as that the registration must be maintained for continued employment.

Negative TB/PPD test, negative drug screening, and passing of physical examination required.
