Job Summary: The Installation & Repair Technician I primarily installs, maintains, and services fiber internet lines, wireless circuits, telephone lines, hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) cables & systems, copper carrier systems, terminals, network devices, and customer-owned equipment. May also diagnose and repair trouble in related systems. Will complete other service & support duties such as, but not limited to: Underground locates, Pole/Plant Inspection, address verification, and site surveys. The Installation & Repair Technician will also assist with other duties as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform Installation & Repair duties, up to and including fiber, cable, and wireless installations.
- Perform maintenance and other service repair on business and residential customers locations.
- Work on Blue Mountain Networks equipment at towers, cabinets, central offices (CO’s), and other network sites as needed.
- Perform underground locates on Blue Mountain Networks lines in a fast and efficient manner as requested.
- Complete network walkouts to document and inspect our network elements, including violations and other correctable issues.
- Review and verify internet-serviceable addresses and record those findings in a shared database.
- Complete in-depth site survey appointments, documenting all the necessary details properly and accurately.
- Support our Phone Services platform, via in-person visits to clients or locations.
- Complete needed site maintenance & repair, as directed, on various Blue Mountain Networks equipment locations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of fiber, wireless, and other network equipment.
- Knowledge of voice communications and VoIP technology.
- Knowledge of company products and services.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
- Ability to climb network towers and pole climbing.
- Skill in operating a bucket truck in a safe and efficient manner.
- Skill in operating service equipment including various hand tools and testing equipment.
- Skill in reading cable records, staking sheets, specifications, and other diagrams.
- Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using the information at hand.
- Ability to effectively function as a team player and with multiple departments.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of telecommunications schooling or equivalent work experience.
- Two years of experience in the installation and repair of customer-facing systems and services.
Physical Requirements:
- Seeing: Must be able to read computer screens and various reports.
- Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with employees and industry contacts.
- Standing/Walking: Must be able to move about the work site.
- Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel and crawl to perform installations and maintenance.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift at least 50bs.
- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type, and use the phone system.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18 to $24 per hour - DOE
