Job Overview
The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of laboratory documentation and patient information by reviewing daily laboratory requisition forms. This role supports compliance with quality standards by verifying that laboratory tests and patient demographic information have been accurately entered by both day and night shift personnel, helping to minimize errors and maintain efficient laboratory operations.
Responsibilities
- Review and cross-check daily laboratory requisition forms for accuracy and completeness.
- Verify that laboratory test orders are correctly entered into the laboratory information system.
- Confirm the accuracy of patient demographic information, including identifiers and relevant clinical data.
- Identify discrepancies, omissions, or data entry errors and communicate findings to appropriate laboratory staff for correction.
- Monitor compliance with laboratory quality assurance procedures and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with accessioning personnel to ensure timely resolution of documentation issues.
- Maintain accurate records of quality assurance reviews and corrective actions.
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives by identifying recurring trends and recommending process enhancements.
- Assist with maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Biochemistry or a related healthcare field.
- Experience in a clinical, diagnostic laboratory, or research environment preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory requisition processes and laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with laboratory staff across multiple shifts.
- Comfortable working extensively with computers and digital documentation in a fast-paced environment.
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
