Volunteer Communication Reserves are an important part of the District’s operations. Their dedication and commitment to the District contribute the overall success and safety of the organization and staff by enhancing the communications and support functions in both times of emergency and on a routine basis. Volunteer Communication Reserves do not perform firefighting functions, or other functions that are normally performed by career District personnel.
Please note: Volunteer Communication Reserves must maintain a residence within the District, or within 30 minutes of District boundaries to be eligible.
The duties consist of, but are not limited to the following:

Fire support duties as assigned, including rehabilitation duties during fire incidents

Provide support during mutual aid response, including track resources.

Assist with logistical Situation/Resource Status support
-
Distribute and recover radio equipment (cache radios and other equipment)
-
Operate radio equipment at incidents
-
Provide telephone and fax support at incidents and during emergencies
-
Assist with the Mobile Command Post and Breathing Support Unit, including setup, operation, shutdown and rehabilitation (upon completion of training)
-
Drive Communications Support and Breathing Support Units, including setup, startup and shutdown/rehabilitation (upon completion of the appropriate license, certification, and training requirements)

Responsible for the inspection and care, including reporting maintenance issues through the appropriate channels, of the Mobile Communication and Breathing Support Units

Assist in Community Events
-
Other duties as assigned
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is an independent Special District in Contra Costa County responsible for providing a high level of emergency and non-emergency services to the communities it serves. The District's service area encompasses approximately 155 square miles, serving the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, San Ramon, the southern boundary of Morgan Territory, and the Tassajara Valley. The communities are primarily residential, commercial, office park, and controlled manufacturing, along with wildland areas, protected by nine stations and one volunteer staffed station with 185 employees, and 56 volunteers. Financial oversight and strategic policy direction are provided by an elected 5-member Board of Directors.
