Summary:
The QA Lead Admin/Tech primary responsibility is to aid in the implementation of San Joaquin Figs’ Quality Management System (QMS) and to test SJF products to ensure that they meet internal and external specifications. The QA Technician samples and tests fruit for quality, sizing, defects, moisture, and completes inspections of the lines and personnel. The QA technician can also assist the QA Manager in training and in the implementation of the QMS.
General work hours are 6:00AM - 2:30 PM, with 30-minute lunch. Monday through Friday 8-hour days is the standard, but Saturdays and overtime may be required. Work hours are dependent on fruit availability and production needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assure that the food is safe, meets internal quality specs and meets applicable food regulation standards.
- Audit production records and reports
- Generate Certificate of Analyses from production data and lab tests.
- Verify Sanitation / Good Manufacturing Practices, QMS implementation of the production floor.
- Sample for microbiological spectrum on product & environment.
- Check paperwork daily and regularly verify its proper completion.
- Help ensure HACCP program is implemented properly.
- Familiarity with CCPs
- Take moisture readings on product & verify that the moisture checker is checking properly.
- Enter information into computer from production paperwork to track trends.
- Inspection of incoming products, trailers and track incoming COAs.
- Inspection of outgoing labels, products, trailers.
- Maintain paperwork system accuracy.
- Track pest data, aid pest control / sanitation supervisor in administering corrective actions for pest control program.
- Work with DFA/ACFSQ & City Phytosanitary officials for inspections and audits.
- Aid in the implementation of the Allergen Control program, Organic program, and the FIFO program.
- Aid in generation of Sanitation and Maintenance Work Orders.
- Work on production lines or other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
- Assist in the planning and execution of research projects
- Conduct experiments and tests to collect data
- Analyze data and assist in preparing technical reports
- Help in the design, development, and implementation of new and improved products
- Perform routine laboratory tasks, such as preparing solutions and maintaining equipment
- Maintain accurate records of experiments and results
- Work closely with the research and development team to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget
- Audit, record, and present research and quality data.
- Develop and/or follow recipes for new pew and existing products while recording that data.
- Some vendor and customer contact.

- Experience in food safety and processing – 1 year;
- Ability to work without micromangement;
- Any Experience in management, engineering/ QA equipment verification or mechanics are all useful;
- Computer skills necessary – excel, word, basic computer literacy;
- Ability to read and assimilate information / research independently;
- Careful attention to detail;
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
