Position Overview
The District is seeking qualified candidates for Electrician I, II, III, and Senior Electrician positions. These positions are responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, constructing, retrofitting, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical systems and related equipment throughout the District's water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, lift stations, storage tanks, meter vaults, and other facilities. All work must be performed in accordance with applicable safety standards, electrical codes, and District policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
All electrician positions perform a variety of electrical maintenance and installation duties, including:
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain industrial electrical systems and equipment.
- Maintain electrical systems serving water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations, storage tanks, meter vaults, and remote facilities.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical failures using visual inspections and diagnostic equipment.
- Install conduit, wiring, cable, junction boxes, enclosures, and electrical components in accordance with National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
- Maintain and repair:
- Electric motors
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Transformers
- Breaker panels
- Power distribution systems
- Lighting systems
- HVAC electrical equipment
- Security systems
- Battery backup and emergency power systems
- Perform preventive maintenance and accurately document work in the District's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and other applicable safety regulations.
- Maintain effective working relationships with District staff, contractors, and customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position-Specific Responsibilities
Electrician I
- Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Utilize diagnostic equipment including multimeters, megohm testers, and amp clamps.
- Support senior electricians with repairs, preventive maintenance, and system improvements.
Electrician II
- Independently troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including live circuit testing.
- Organize and perform preventive maintenance activities.
- Assist with construction projects, upgrades, and retrofits.
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
Electrician III
- Perform inspections, repairs, installations, modifications, and maintenance under general supervision.
- Perform work on medium-voltage electrical systems up to 4160 volts, including switchgear, MCCs, motors, VFDs, transformers, relays, instrumentation equipment, and motor-operated valves.
- Collect cathodic protection data.
- Assist with facility housekeeping activities.
- Support construction and retrofit projects involving new and existing facilities.
Senior Electrician
- Provide day-to-day supervision and technical guidance to Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) personnel.
- Coordinate electrical maintenance activities throughout District facilities.
- Assist in overseeing all District electrical and electronic systems.
- Support installation and maintenance of PLCs, LPUs, automation controls, instrumentation, and level control systems.
- Assist with electrical system design, construction, and retrofit projects.
- Develop and implement strategic maintenance plans.
- Coordinate contractor activities and ensure quality and code compliance.
- Manage electrical on-call schedules and collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Electrician I
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Up to one (1) year of electrical and/or mechanical experience.
- Must obtain a Texas Apprentice Electrician License within six (6) months of hire.
Electrician II
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) to three (3) years of relevant electrical and/or mechanical experience.
- Valid Texas Apprentice Electrician License required at hire.
- Must obtain a Texas Journeyman Electrician License within three (3) years of hire.
Electrician III
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of advanced commercial and/or industrial electrical and mechanical experience.
- Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License required upon hire.
- Must maintain required continuing education for license renewal.
Senior Electrician
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Six (6) or more years of experience with water/wastewater utility, municipal, or industrial electrical systems.
- Valid Texas Master Electrician License required upon hire.
- Must maintain required continuing education for license renewal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, electrical codes, and safe work practices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze electrical diagrams, schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and construction plans.
- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to safely work in industrial environments, outdoors, and in confined spaces.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, and customers.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Texas Driver's License required.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening, physical examination, and background investigation.
- Completion of all required continuing education for applicable electrical licensing.
