Superintendent (Tanks)

Plaas Incorporated is located in Red Wing, MN, with a branch office in South Sioux City, NE. We are a well-established industrial contractor with more than 50 years of experience. We are looking for a Working Superintendent (Tanks) who will lead and oversee field crews, equipment, and safety compliance for Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) projects. In addition, the Superintendent functions as a Working Tank Foreman, actively performing hands-on tasks such as welding, rigging, and repairs. The Superintendent bridges the gap between management and field personnel to ensure jobs are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards. This position requires travel to assigned project sites throughout the Midwest and other assigned locations, with extended travel assignments based on project needs. Relocation is not required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Site Supervision: Supervise field crews in AST erection, repair, welding, and maintenance while ensuring compliance with safety policies (OSHA), quality standards (QA/QC), and project requirements.
· Hands-on Work: Perform and oversee skilled work, including layout, fitting, welding, grinding, and rigging for tanks.
· Planning & Logistics: Assist with developing work schedules, coordinating personnel, identifying material needs, and resolving field issues.
· Documentation: Complete daily paperwork, including timesheets, T&M sheets, progress reports, and redlining construction drawings.
· Mentorship: Train and mentor crew members in tank building and repair techniques, as well as safe work practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
· Experience: 2+ years of experience as a field foreman in the AST construction and repair industry.
· Technical Knowledge: Expertise in SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW welding processes; burning equipment and techniques; and blueprint and drawing interpretation.
· Certifications: DOT OQ (Operator Qualification); ability to obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Card upon hire; and applicable welding and safety certifications.
· Physical Ability: Capable of working at heights, in confined spaces, and lifting heavy equipment (50+ lbs.).
· Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
· Leadership: Proven leadership skills to manage a crew and maintain positive customer relations.
· Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively interact with Project Managers, Superintendents, employees, customers, and subcontractors.
Job Details:
Job Type: Full-time, hourly
Pay: $40-$45 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Work Location: Travel required to assigned project sites throughout the Midwest and other assigned locations. Relocation is not required.
