Sun King Trucking® is seeking a skilled, dependable, detail-oriented Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of dump trucks, tractor trailers, dump trailers, heavy equipment, and company vehicles.
This position may support Sun King Trucking® and affiliated companies/subsidiaries, including hauling operations, fleet maintenance, CDL training support, heavy equipment operations, safety training activities, roadside assistance, and other company-owned or managed vehicles and equipment.
We need a real mechanic. Not someone who rigs repairs, guesses, cuts corners, or sends unsafe trucks back out. Unsafe trucks do not leave the yard.
What We Operate:Tandem axle dump trucks, tri-axle dump trucks, quad axle dump trucks, quint axle dump trucks, dump trailers, tractor trailers, heavy equipment, company vehicles, hydraulic dump systems, lift axles, PTO systems, wet kits, air brake systems, suspension systems, electrical systems, charging systems, tarp systems, tailgates, hoists, cylinders, and dump bodies.
Responsibilities:Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks, trailers, dump trucks, heavy equipment, and fleet vehicles.
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, scheduled services, and repair tracking.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair engine, suspension, steering, driveline, brake, hydraulic, air, electrical, charging, PTO, wet kit, and DEF/SCR system issues.
Repair air leaks, valves, chambers, hoses, fittings, brake components, slack adjusters, drums, shoes, ABS components, suspension components, wheel seals, rear-end seals, axle seals, hub seals, driveline issues, and differential leaks.
Change tires, inspect tire wear, check wheel ends, inspect hub oil, check studs, rims, bearings, and identify unsafe wear conditions.
Inspect and maintain PTO systems, hydraulic cylinders, hoists, wet kits, lift axles, tailgates, tarp systems, dump bodies, body hinges, bed floors, tailgate latches, mud flaps, lights, decals, reflective tape, mirrors, CB radios, antennas, and safety equipment.
Perform welding, fabrication, cutting, grinding, minor body repair, body panel repair, paint touch-up, and fleet appearance repairs when needed.
Perform roadside repairs, field repairs, and emergency breakdown response as part of normal mechanic responsibilities.
Properly document repairs, defects, parts used, labor performed, maintenance findings, unresolved issues, and unsafe vehicles.
Maintain clean, organized, safe, and professional shop conditions.
Communicate professionally with ownership, dispatch, management, drivers, trainees, vendors, and operations personnel.

Someone who understands dump truck operations, vocational trucks, hydraulics, air brakes, suspension wear, frame stress, driveline issues, wheel ends, and fleet reliability.
Someone who can work independently without being babysat.
Someone who takes pride in clean work, organized repairs, safe equipment, proper documentation, and professional fleet appearance.
Someone who knows when a vehicle is safe to release and when it must stay down.

Requirements:Must be able to lift heavy components safely, work outdoors and in shop environments, safely use shop tools and diagnostic equipment, work around commercial vehicles and heavy equipment, communicate clearly, follow company procedures, pass pre-employment drug screening, and remain subject to drug/alcohol testing as allowed by law and company policy.
Professional Expectations:Sun King Trucking® does not tolerate unsafe repairs, shortcut repairs, rigged equipment, bypassing safety systems, drug or alcohol impairment, excessive cell phone use while working, unauthorized recordings, poor attendance, careless workmanship, dirty work areas, theft or misuse of company property, or releasing unsafe trucks.
Tools:Mechanics with their own professional tools are strongly preferred. Ability to use computer diagnostics is strongly preferred. Company tools, specialty tools, diagnostic equipment, shop equipment, and support resources may be available depending on job duties and company needs.
Documentation:Maintenance documentation is not optional. Repairs, defects, parts used, safety concerns, PM services, roadside repairs, follow-up repairs, and unsafe vehicles must be properly documented.
Compensation:Compensation is based on proven heavy-duty mechanical experience, actual diagnostic ability, dump truck and vocational truck knowledge, reliability, work ethic, professionalism, communication, documentation habits, and ability to keep equipment safe and operational.
