Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and comfort.
- Take and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates.
- Support patients during transfers using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment like Hoyer lifts or transfer belts.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior promptly to nursing staff, ensuring timely intervention.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations while documenting care activities in electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems).
- Support infection control protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and maintaining a clean environment.
- Assist with medical procedures such as catheter care, wound dressing changes, or phlebotomy under supervision when necessary.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, or individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs measurement, and basic life support (CPR).
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR systems) such as Epic or Cerner is preferred.
- Prior experience in long-term care facilities, hospitals, assisted living communities or home care settings is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques and assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts or patient transfer methods.
