ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Position Summary
The assistant controller will provide professional support to the corporate controller by performing specialized construction accounting tasks and overseeing the job costs, budgets, and financial statements of the company. The assistant controller will develop an understanding of contracts in process and work independently to properly classify, record, and maintain records of project revenue and expenses. They will also routinely communicate with project managers, employees, vendors, and subcontractors regarding accounting matters. In addition, they will manage the general ledger, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, while working closely with the controller to assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or in a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and Foundation (or other specialized construction accounting software)
- Strong financial reporting, federal and local taxes, and multi-state payroll
- Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task, manage work priorities, and effectively work within a deadline driven environment
- CPA certification
Job Duties
- Assist controller with compiling financial data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, filings, and audits
- Assist project managers with preparation and review of job budgets and projections
- Oversee cash management, supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, manage bank and credit card reconciliations, and maintain the general ledger
- Oversee daily timekeeping functions and review payroll weekly
-Manage tax compliance and ensure timely filing of local, state and federal taxes
-Develop, implement and maintain internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulations
- Effectively coordinate and communicate accounting-related matters with staff within the organization
- Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations
- Positively contribute to the overall growth and improvement of the company’s reputation, market share, and operations
