Buyer - Manufacturing
Overhead Door/Wayne Dalton in Pensacola, Florida, is looking for an experienced full-time Buyer to join their team. This role requires a strong problem solver with excellent quantitative skills to ensure material availability and inventory accuracy. The ideal candidate is hands-on, willing to work on the plant floor to verify inventory, conduct cycle counts, and collaborate with hourly employees for timely updates.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage purchasing activities for large-volume commodities, focusing on steel and chemicals.
- Monitor inventory levels and perform cycle counts to maintain accuracy and prevent shortages.
- Collaborate with production teams and hourly employees to gather real-time material and inventory updates.
- Analyze data to identify trends, optimize purchasing strategies, and reduce costs.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials to support continuous production in a high-volume environment.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships and negotiate favorable pricing and delivery terms.
- Utilize ERP systems (such as Oracle or JD Edwards) to manage purchasing and inventory processes effectively.
- Promote and uphold a safety-first attitude in all purchasing and plant-floor activities.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Proven experience in commodity purchasing, particularly steel and chemicals, within a manufacturing setting.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to solve complex problems quickly.
- Hands-on approach and willingness to work on the plant floor to verify inventory and interact with team members.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively across departments.
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as Oracle or JD Edwards.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems and procurement best practices.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company safety standards.
- Continuous repetition of movements.
- Frequent lifting, bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, and reaching.
- Ability to perform physical activities requiring full range of motion in hands, arms, and legs.
- Ability to repeatedly use abdominal and lower back muscles when bending and lifting.
- Ability to stand for up to 90% of the shift.
Compensation & Benefits:
- For this position, you will be paid $18-20 per hour
- Shifts available: Monday-Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
- Contract to hire position
