Who We Are
Since 2013, People.Health has transformed the way public health and healthcare organizations operate. Our small, dedicated team of developers, designers, and project managers creates software that supports large-scale health initiatives for State and Local Health Departments, Federal agencies, healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and other entities dedicated to managing the health of underserved and vulnerable populations.
What We Need
The Cloud Engineer is a key leadership role responsible for the reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence of the company’s cloud infrastructure and engineering platforms.
This position leads the DevOps organization and works in close partnership with the Head of Technology and Chief Security Officer to deliver stable, secure, compliant, and high-performing systems that empower engineering teams to ship faster with confidence. The role owns end-to-end cloud infrastructure operations, modern CI/CD practices, observability, and the operational execution of SOC 2 (and other relevant) compliance controls.
In addition, the Cloud Engineer champions the responsible integration of AI-enabled engineering practices, governing tools and workflows that measurably improve developer productivity, code quality, documentation, and delivery velocity.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who combines deep infrastructure and security expertise with strong people leadership and a passion for enabling high-performing engineering teams.

Key Deliverables:
- Manage and evolve internal developer platforms, tooling, and self-service capabilities.
- Drive improvements in build pipelines, automated testing, and deployment workflows.
- Standardize and simplify development environments and operational practices.
- Measure and improve key developer productivity and satisfaction metrics.
5. AI-Enabled Engineering Practices
Lead the responsible adoption of AI tools to accelerate engineering velocity and quality.
Key Deliverables:
- Establish clear policies, guardrails, and best practices for secure and ethical use of AI-assisted coding, testing, and documentation tools.
- Integrate AI capabilities into existing workflows for code generation, test generation, code review assistance, and documentation automation.
- Automate creation and maintenance of technical documentation (architecture, system diagrams, runbooks, etc.).
- Track and report on measurable gains in productivity, quality, and documentation coverage.
6. Technical Collaboration & Institutional Knowledge
Serve as a trusted technical advisor and institutional memory for the engineering organization.
Key Deliverables:
- Provide operational expertise and risk-informed input to the Head of Technology on major initiatives, platform architecture, and infrastructure strategy.
- Contribute to platform evolution, scalability planning, and technology roadmap decisions.
- Support and modernize (where appropriate) legacy systems still in active use.
