Job Description And Duties
Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each full-time employee shall receive a reduction in pay in exchange for PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the reduction in pay. All Bargaining Unit 7 classifications will receive a 2 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 3.5 hours of PLP 2025 per month.
The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is recruiting for one, Permanent, Full-time Investigator position within the Enforcement Division. This position is to be located in the Sacramento office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.
Under the direction of the Supervising Special Investigator I and Deputy Commissioner, the Investigator is responsible for peace officer duties and responsibilities under the Department’s (DFPI) jurisdiction. The Investigator conducts complex investigations into violations under the DFPI's authority and prepares documentation detailing findings for the department to take appropriate action. The Investigator will prepare and execute search warrants and legal documents. The Investigator will locate and conduct interviews with witnesses and suspects, make physical arrests for criminal offenses, conduct undercover and surveillance operations, and coordinate with other agencies for joint operations. They will assist department counsel with referrals to other agencies, act as investigative support to counsel, and appear and testify as a witness in trials and proceedings.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants may be admitted into the examination without meeting all of the requirements in this section, but the applicant must meet those requirements prior to appointment.
Must meet the peace officer selection standards developed by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training per Penal Code section 13510(a) and in accordance with existing law;* and*
Applicants for positions in this class are required to pass a drug screening test. Testing of current employees who are applicants in an examination or who are transferring is permitted only if the person does not have a current appointment to a class for which drug testing is a requirement;* and*
Firearm Conviction Disqualification: Anyone who is restricted for employment-related purposes from accessing, possessing, carrying, receiving, or having under his/her control a firearm or ammunition under all applicable State or Federal laws is ineligible for appointment to any position in peace officer classifications; and
Firearms Requirement: Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence as defined in the amended Federal Gun Control Act of 1968 are disqualified from appointment to peace officer classifications; and

Education: Equivalent to completion of four years of college (120 semester units) from an accredited college or university; or
II
Experience: Four years of experience performing investigative work in a public or private agency or in the armed services.
