Job Title: Concrete Finisher / Form Carpenter – Sidewalks & Flatwork
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced, dependable Concrete Finisher / Form Carpenter to perform concrete flatwork on commercial and municipal construction projects. The ideal candidate must have proven hands-on experience constructing sidewalks, concrete pads, curbs, and similar exterior concrete work—from base preparation and form setting through finishing and saw-cutting control joints.
Responsibilities
- Set, align, brace, and level forms for concrete sidewalks, curbs, pads, ramps, and other flatwork.
- Prepare subgrade and base materials, including minor grading, filling, spreading, and compaction as required.
- Establish and maintain proper lines, elevations, slopes, and drainage using string lines, levels, and layout tools.
- Assist with concrete placement, screeding, floating, edging, broom finishing, and final surface finishing.
- Cut control joints / contraction joints in fresh or cured concrete using a concrete saw, according to plans and field conditions.
- Perform minor repairs to existing sidewalks, curbs, and concrete surfaces.
- Read and follow construction drawings, layout information, and superintendent/foreman instructions.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, plate compactors, concrete saws, and other equipment related to concrete flatwork.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; comply with OSHA and company safety requirements.
- Assist with material handling and other related site work as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of verifiable experience as a Concrete Finisher, Form Setter, or Form Carpenter.
- Demonstrated experience with sidewalks, curbs, ramps, concrete pads, and commercial flatwork is required.
- Ability to independently set forms and achieve correct grades, slopes, and drainage.
- Experience preparing and compacting base material.
- Proficient in screeding, floating, edging, broom finishing, and saw-cutting concrete control joints.
- Ability to read basic construction drawings and follow layout/elevation instructions.
- Must be physically able to work outdoors, lift and handle construction materials, and perform demanding field work.
- Reliable transportation required. Valid driver’s license and OSHA certification are preferred.
- Must be dependable, punctual, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively with a crew.
Preferred
- Experience on municipal, roadway, park, or public works projects.
- Experience repairing concrete sidewalks and curbs.
- Ability to communicate in English and Spanish.
