Responsibilities
- Install, splice, and test fiber optic cables and systems in outdoor environments, adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.
- Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and construction machinery to facilitate installation activities.
- Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to identify issues within fiber optic networks and troubleshoot technical problems efficiently.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering plans to accurately execute cabling and network infrastructure projects.
- Perform telecommunications outside plant operations including cable pulling, splicing, terminations, and ensuring proper cable management.
- Conduct telecommunications testing for network performance verification, including WAN (Wide Area Network), LAN (Local Area Network), Ethernet, and telephony systems.
- Follow the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards during all outdoor work activities to maintain safety compliance.
- Support telecommunications network upgrades by installing new fiber optic cables within existing infrastructure or new construction sites.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot complex fiber optic network issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques.
- Maintain detailed documentation of work performed, including technical drawings, test results, and installation logs.
Skills
- Proven experience in field service operations with a focus on fiber optic systems installation and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications cabling, splicing techniques, and network infrastructure components.
- Skilled in operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and construction machinery safely and efficiently.
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and interpreting technical drawings related to fiber optics and telecommunications networks.
- Hands-on experience with telecommunications outside plant operations including cable pulling, splicing, and cable management.
- Familiarity with computer networking concepts such as LAN, WAN, Ethernet protocols, and telephony systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot engineering issues related to fiber optic networks using technical troubleshooting support methods.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards applicable to outdoor electrical work environments.
- Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions with a focus on safety protocols for outdoor work environments.
- Construction experience combined with a strong understanding of IT infrastructure components necessary for modern telecommunication networks.
