The incumbent in the Airport Auto Equipment Operator 3 classification is a highly skilled heavy equipment operator with demonstrated leadership abilities and a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and teamwork. This position requires an individual who can effectively direct and coordinate the work of a crew, ensuring assigned tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and within established timeframes.
The Airport Auto Equipment Operator 3 will possess extensive experience operating a variety of heavy construction and maintenance equipment, including combination/backhoes, skid steer loaders (Bobcats), forklifts, front-end loaders, excavators, dump trucks with trailers, and lowboy tractor-trailers. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation, transportation, and maintenance of this equipment in support of airport operations.
Incumbents must have a thorough understanding of standard operating procedures (SOPs), traffic regulations, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) requirements. The incumbent will be an effective communicator who works collaboratively with supervisors and team members, conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and promptly reports equipment deficiencies, damage, or mechanical issues to ensure operational readiness and safety.
Additionally, the position requires advanced knowledge of hydraulically operated equipment, including the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and respond to equipment malfunctions in the field while maintaining safe operating practices and will consistently demonstrate sound judgment, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to supporting departmental operations.
