Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced medical imaging technology such as 3D scanners and digital radiography systems.
- Manage patient records efficiently within EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like OpenDental Eaglesoft, Dentrix, while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform chairside assisting with aseptic technique, vital signs measurement, and maintaining a sterile environment to prevent infection.
- Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care instructions in a clear, friendly manner.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and managing medical documentation and coding for insurance claims.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and chairside support.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Experience with EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix for accurate record keeping and medical documentation.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners confidently.
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards to ensure patient privacy at all times.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices to effectively assist in treating children with patience and care.
