We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Fleet Mechanic to keep our FedEx Ground vehicles in top shape! You will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of 30+ vehicles, ensuring they remain in optimal operating condition. Your expertise will be essential in keeping our vehicles safe, reliable, and efficient, thereby contributing to the overall success of our operations. Our Lead Fleet Mechanic will operate out of the FedEx Ground terminal in Perrysburg, OH & our shop in Toledo, OH.
Responsibilities:
- Routine Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance tasks on fleet vehicles including: oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks; suspension, brake and water pump maintenance to prevent breakdowns and ensure longevity.
- Diagnostic Testing: Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and issues affecting vehicle performance.
- Repair and Replacement: Execute repairs and part replacements as needed, including engine components, brakes, steering systems, and transmissions, to restore vehicles to working order.
- Preventive Measures: Implement preventive measures and recommend improvements to prevent future breakdowns and increase vehicle reliability.
- Breakdown Assistance: Facilitate the repair/retrieval/movement of fleet vehicles that break down on the road.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed, including parts used and hours worked, to track vehicle history and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working on vehicles, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including drivers, supervisors, and other mechanics, to prioritize tasks, coordinate repairs, and optimize fleet performance.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on advancements in automotive technology, industry trends, and best practices through training and professional development activities.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a mechanic, with proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various types of vehicles, including trucks, vans, and specialized equipment.
- ASE certification a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize workload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service, including effective communication and problem-solving skills when interacting with drivers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify issues and implement effective solutions quickly and efficiently.
- Attention to detail to ensure accurate diagnosis, repair, and documentation of vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and communicating effectively to achieve common goals.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects, working in tight spaces, and standing for extended periods, as required in a workshop environment.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and always adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
