OVERVIEW
The Hardware Engineer is responsible for designing and analyzing circuits using design tools, directing PCB layout, performing prototype verification with lab instrumentation and PC-based development tools, and supporting manufacturing introduction and sustaining activities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create hardware design solutions including digital and analog circuit design, cabling and interconnect design, firmware applications, microprocessor-based board level design, printed circuit board layout, motherboard design, digital signal processing, and real-time embedded multiprocessor design.
- Oversee engineering life cycle of hardware products, including architecture, design, and implementation.
- Confer with the VP of Engineering on writing functional specifications.
- Design product solutions and features using hardware description languages, CAD tools, and additional tools as required.
- Responsible for all schematic entry; may supervise Junior Engineers on a project-by-project basis.
- Responsible for printed circuit board designs; oversee PCB designs on a per-project basis.
- Maintain relationships with vendors and assist Engineering in identifying issues and implementing fixes.
- Make modifications to product lines as directed by Engineering Management.
- Work closely with Engineering Managers to identify bugs and build fixes.
- Measure project completion at critical stages and implement corrective actions as directed by Engineering Management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
BSEE, BSET, BSCS or a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
EXPERIENCE
- 2–4 years of experience in hardware design and implementation.
- Full life cycle development experience from concept through manufacturing, including digital and analog hardware design, implementation, testing, and documentation.
- Experience with Intel architecture processor design (Core i7, i9, XEON desired).
- Experience with high-speed digital design: PCI Express Gen 4/5, USB 3/4, Thunderbolt 3/4, DDR3/DDR4/DDR5.
- Experience in FPGA design, including VHDL and Xilinx FPGA (desired).
