Job Title: Software Quality Control
Location: Murray, UT — On-site
Pay: $15.00–$16.00 per hour, depending on experience
Job Type: Part-time, approximately 28 hours per week
About Us:
We are an ATM site survey and field services company that develops and maintains internal software solutions used by office employees, field technicians, vendors, and customers.
We are looking for a detail-oriented Software Quality Control to test our software from the user’s perspective. This person will verify that new features work correctly, identify usability problems, document defects, and help ensure software updates are ready before they are released.
This is an entry-level opportunity for someone who is technically curious, highly observant, and comfortable learning new software systems. The position will work on-site in our Murray office and collaborate with internal departments and our remote software development team in India.
Key Responsibilities
- Test new software features, updates, and bug fixes before they are released.
- Review software from the perspective of different users, including office staff, field technicians, administrators, vendors, and customers.
- Identify functional defects, confusing workflows, inconsistent behavior, and other user-experience issues.
- Create clear and detailed bug reports that include reproduction steps, screenshots, videos, expected results, and actual results.
- Verify completed development work against the original requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Perform regression testing to confirm that software changes have not disrupted existing features.
- Test software across different browsers, devices, user accounts, permissions, and software environments.
- Maintain testing checklists, test cases, and quality-control documentation.
- Track defects and testing progress in Jira or similar project-management software.
- Communicate testing results to internal stakeholders and the remote development team.
- Record screen-share videos using Loom or similar tools when visual documentation is helpful.
- Help identify opportunities to make software workflows clearer, faster, and easier to use.
- Confirm that reported defects have been resolved before work is approved or released.
- Occasionally participate in early-morning meetings with our India-based development team.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to notice small inconsistencies.
- Comfortable learning and testing unfamiliar software.
- Strong written communication skills, particularly when documenting technical issues.
- Ability to follow a process while also thinking critically about the overall user experience.
- Comfortable managing multiple testing assignments and priorities.
- Basic troubleshooting skills and an interest in software or information technology.
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, Loom, or similar tools is preferred but not required.
- Comfortable/Proficient using Excel for tracking, organizing, and reviewing information.
- Experience with software testing, quality assurance, technical support, or application troubleshooting is a plus.
- Familiarity with browsers, mobile applications, databases, APIs, or software-development concepts is helpful but not required.
- Willingness to work occasional flexible hours for global team collaboration.
What Success Looks Like
A successful person in this role:
- Finds issues before they affect employees or customers.
- Provides enough detail for developers to understand and reproduce defects.
- Tests beyond the basic expected workflow and considers how real users may interact with the software.
- Distinguishes between technical defects, unclear requirements, and usability concerns.
- Follows reported issues through testing, development, retesting, and final approval.
- Communicates concerns clearly and professionally, even when challenging whether work is ready for release.
Why Join Us
- Gain hands-on experience in software quality assurance and user-experience testing.
- Work directly with internal software products and active development projects.
- Learn how software moves from requirements through development, testing, and release.
- Receive guidance and mentorship from experienced IT and product leadership.
- Build practical experience with Jira, software testing, bug reporting, and release processes.
- Bonus opportunities based on performance and company results.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are observant, organized, and naturally inclined to test how things work. When you encounter a problem, you do more than report that something is broken—you determine when it happens, document how to reproduce it, and explain how it affects the user.
You are comfortable asking questions, investigating inconsistent behavior, and identifying work that does not meet requirements. You may be early in your IT career, but you are dependable, thoughtful, and interested in helping create software that is accurate, reliable, and easy to use.
