Position Overview:
Our growing civil litigation firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with 3–5 years of litigation experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience handling civil defense matters and be comfortable managing a litigation caseload from inception through trial.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a diverse insurance defense and civil litigation caseload
- Conduct legal research
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and legal memoranda
- Conduct and defend depositions
- Attend hearings, mediations, and court appearances
- Work directly with insurance carriers, adjusters, clients, and expert witnesses
- Develop litigation strategy and evaluate liability, damages, and exposure
- Assist with trial preparation and participate in jury trials
Qualifications:
- Licensed and in good standing with the North Carolina State Bar
- 3–5 years of civil litigation experience, with insurance defense experience preferred
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Experience handling depositions, discovery, and motion practice
- Excellent oral advocacy and communication skills
- Ability to independently manage deadlines and a litigation docket while working collaboratively with attorneys and staff
- Trial experience is a plus but not required
