SUMMARY:
Coordinates and provides direct and consultation services and instruction to individuals with exceptional needs in accordance with special education programs of the LUSD Department of Educational Services.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Valid California Special Education Teaching Credential/Education Specialist Instruction Credential to serve students with mild/moderate disabilities or a clinical services credential with a special class authorization or equivalent.
- Three or more years of teaching experience, preferably including both regular and special education, as defined by rules and regulations of the Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing, and demonstration of the competencies for an education specialist, as established by the Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:
- CLAD or equivalent
- Must meet ESSA requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct instruction in academic areas to students with special needs on a one-to-one or small group basis, either in the resource room/learning center or in the regular classroom.
- Provide information and assistance to individuals with exceptional needs and their parents.
- Provide consultation, resource information, and support materials regarding individuals with exceptional needs to parents and to staff members.
- Coordinate special education services with the regular school programs for each individual with exceptional needs.
- Assess and monitor pupil progress on a regular basis, participate in the review and revision of the Individualized Education Program, and refer pupils who do not indicate appropriate progress to the IEP team.
- Provide information to parents of students referred for special education.
- Assist in the selection of and provide training to special education para-professionals.
- Participate in the identification, assessment, and instructional planning process for individuals with special needs.
- Attend special education in-service trainings, as required, and participate in providing in-service trainings to general education staff.
- Organize and maintain student service records.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of general education programs and curriculum.
- Knowledge of basic needs and limitations of students with exceptional needs.
- Knowledge of special education assessment, curriculum, equipment, and other resources available.
- Knowledge of classroom management techniques, organizational skills, skills in utilizing a variety of instructional models and strategies.
- Skill in Professional Development, interpersonal communication and consultation skills.
- May require travel and transportation from site to site.
- Willingness to attend staff-parent conferences and meetings after the regular work day.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to lift and carry a maximum of fifty pounds and have the ability to climb a ladder. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.

Pay: $57,149.00 - $115,778.00 per year
